Monday 12th February will be a momentous day for Kilkenny Swim Club. For the first time ever a club member will compete at the World Swimming Championships. The action takes place in Doha for a week where Callan's swim queen Maria Godden will take to the pool with a green, white and gold tricolour on her hat yet with fellow Kilkenny swimmers past and present urging on every stroke. The culmination of the short course (25 metre pool) season saw Kilkenny swimmer compete in both the Leinster and National Championships. The Leinster Championships took place in late November and Kilkenny swimmers enjoyed a very successful two day gala. Success came across all strokes including relays. In the freestyle long distance races there was medals won by Paddy Cuddihy, Abby Cunningham and Nessa Godden. Paddy & Abby doubled up for gold in the Junior 1500 metres. Callan's Maria Godden put in career best performances at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Bucharest Romania last weekend. Maria, a backstroke specialist reached the semi finals of both the 100 and 200 metres. In doing so Maria set a personal best (PB) of 2.06.71 in the 200 metres. Irish Winter Nationals 2022 Kilkenny swimmers recently competed in the 2022 Winter Nationals in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin where they were up against Ireland’s top international swimmers.
